Grow Again
Liner Notes
Typically, I use far too many words in my songs because I love words, lots of em, heaping piles of glorious words stacked on top of more packages of eloquent elocution. You know, lots of words. And typically I have to use a crowbar to jam them into each line, just hoping I can make them all fit. So when I saw the #28wordslater challenge, I thought that I should give it a shot.
Since I was going out of my comfort zone with the number of words, I figured I'd go way out of my comfort zone and do a slow, finger-picking number with a guitar solo thrown in for good measure. None of those things are in my wheelhouse, but it was fun putting this together.
Lyrics
The world may be ending, Or maybe not. I think maybe it’s time To let everything rot.
Let it all go to seed So life can grow again.

Big Velvet Underground vibes. The ping-pong vibrato is not only attention grabbing, but really compliments and builds on the lyrical mood as well.
Oh man, Dave. This is stunning. So different from your usual go-to folk punk energy, love your versatility! Amazing what you can accomplish when you put down the crowbar and hand select a few grade A top choice words to make your point. The fingerpicking is lovely, and the wavy trippy effect of the strummed part is so evocative. I’m actually getting some nice acoustic Frank Turner feels on this one. Gorgeous work!
Well played and sung! Everything good is typically on the outside of whatever our comfort zone is.
Beautiful simplicity. Very emotional, I love the shimmering stereo panning on the guitar. There's a really cool tension between what feels like pessimism and life-affirming optimism in the lyrics and the sparseness of the song gives a lot of space to reflect on it.
