Lyrics

Tax time We're having mac n cheese with white wine And silver lines Tax time Now everybody's renting bright sides And plastic smiles

Used to doom scroll for a sense of safety But "doom scroll" feels a little literal lately But as it turns out, I'm codependent on my phone Cuz i can't chase away the existential dread alone I watched a man get shot ten times in the back Then i scrolled a little further, saw an ad for a snack That was a little too expensive, cuz I'm poor and thats offensive And the cost of waking up has grown a little too extensive But it's that time of year again, where old uncle saint nick Bestows upon the commonfolk his annual gift And if you sit on his lap, show papa your list He'll slide it right down your throat with a patriotic fist And even though it's tempting to bite the hand that feeds You swallow every bitter pill, cuz everyone has needs And when he asks you if you liked it, you'll tell him it was nice Then he'll cut you a check and say "it's better with ice"

Tax time We're having mac n cheese with white wine And silver lines Tax time Now everybody's renting bright sides And plastic smiles

Why dwell on all your debts and collections Or wonder if your government can cancel elections When you can change your life if you buy a bidet You just swipe a little further, flush your worries away And didn't you say you wanted a new tattoo? Your car is breaking down, and your rents been due for like 3 weeks, and the stress has been driving you mad? Well i bet a federal bandaid wouldn't be so bad

Tax time We're having mac n cheese with white wine And silver lines Tax time Now everybody's renting bright sides And plastic smiles

Relate so hard to this, it's like you're inside my mind! Cool how that happens sometimes. As always, I am such a big fan of your vocals and the beat just bringing it to life so seamlessly!"anything to stop the existential dread from setting in" AWESOME!

This is awesome. Listening for a second time now. The spoken word delivery with super catchy hook is a great contrast.

i love the casual cool of the production and vocals that lay down some of the existential despair of modern economic life without showing ahger, hostility, or a vengeful desire for blood. it is a chill take on the old school jazzy R&B protest songls like "Compared to What" ....at least in a sense, nor completely, because this is nahleg and q,,,,totally original with nothing holding them down or defining them.

Wow this is awesome. Dropping some real good bars. Like the contrast between verses and chorus. Please let me know when your album is out

Holy schmoly. This is so cool. This way you rap on the verse and the words are so good. Man! This rules.

There are so many words and this was a ton of work (I assume) fantastic job.

Woooh, Tax Time! I can see why you were so excited to work on this one, it’s a bona fide banger. The dynamics are handled so darn well, the way it drops in the first half of the verse, drums kick in halfway through and then the big singalong choruses - perfect pacing. There’s so many little musical treats hiding in the mix, but I particularly love where you echo the main hook either with synth brass behind the vocals or - even more clever - with the choir sitting behind the final verse. Love the gallows humour of the words, and then the vocal is pitched at just the right level of world weary cynicism mixed with forced cheerfulness. Also, that hook is a massive earworm, I’m going to be humming it all day….
