Lyrics

Spoken: An ode to the penny, Bad news to many, Some have plenty, Others don't have any, Sang: Put a whopper in the copper, Before you think to count it out, You'll feel exalted and assaulted, Malted water in your spout, But when your garden grows up chocolate, And you really feel like flowers, You can hack at all the thistle, And drink chocolate in the shower,

Put a whopper in the copper, And you'll grow a chocolate bunny, Put a matchstick in your birthday cake, And you'll make a lot of money, Don't take yourself so serious, Cos everyone thinks you're funny, If you retire in the winter, Choose somewhere warm and sunny.

First sign of magic, You hear the children plead, A hat and a hatchet, Now the row is filled with seeds, Just say the word, oh, Lincoln, And the people walk out freed, Say the word divinity, While the deacon's sweating beads,

If we go on like this, We'll surely need to stop, Melting copper pipes to pennies, As the mercury starts to drop, We can pull it off the buildings, And sell when times are tough, But when you're owed to the penny, You know enough's enough.

Some thought provoking sensory imagery in this one. +1 on the creative rhythm backing.

Are you using loose change as your shaker? That is cool given the song! Its a kind of freeform, freeassociation lyric which starts with the money, circles around life in general with great chocolate and cake imagery, only to circle back to money at the end. Almost like someone from a poor place walks hungry and alone past a bakers, takes in all those sweet scents before having to continue their journey without really having enough to buy the sweet food so they are still hungry. Good and painted a neat (probably incorrect) scene for me

Words of wisdom to live by. I like the harmonica!
