Lyrics

WHISTLE PAST THE GRAVEYARD (c) 2026 raspberry33

Verse: It’s an ancient solution for conquering fears Going back centuries, at least 300 years The dark hides your face, but the spirits have ears So, whistle past the graveyard (whistle response)

Verse 2: The bone yard’s close, a block to the right It’s Friday the thirteenth, and the middle of the night If you can’t light a candle, then you won’t shed light So whistle past the graveyard (whistle response)

Bridge: Trouble with money, trouble with love Trouble with politics, lord above Trouble with decisions when push comes to shove There’s a puckered up, a puckered up solution

Verse 3: Darkness can’t cover what night owls see Whether fear or danger or uncertainty A superficial effort to restore normalcy Just whistle past the graveyard

(instrumental)

Verse 4: Ominous signals flashing in view Let’s try denial, maybe that will do Newt’s eyes and heavy sighs sweeten the brew As we whistle past the graveyard

Bridge:

Outro: An election’s coming, does it give you pause? Done a lot of damage with a grandfather clause You’ve tied yourself to the mast of breaking laws So whistle past the graveyard

This almost feels like a dare to face troubles and fears with cheer and song . I really like that ! Thx for the revelation

Is whistling while you walk past the graveyard an actual thing or did you make that up for the song? I like how the song started talking about a 300 year old tradition but came around to the current day. Nicely done!

On another note, I've listened to 3 of the whistle skirmish songs so far and they've all been about dark or creepy subjects - one didn't have words but it still sounded eerie. Mine was too... who would've thought a whistle prompt would bring so many of us over to darker subjects? Guess it's the times...

"Whistling past the graveyard" is Americana that goes back at least 100 years. Meaning put on a brave face, or smiling through a tough time. (You'd think my whistling would have improved this past year!) According to Google, at least, the phrase was used in "To Kill a Mockingbird" and by Steven King, Bob Dylan and Tom Waits. But I think it might go back even farther, probably to Europe, where people thought the noise kept evil spirits at bay. I'd love to take credit, but many have walked that path before. Whistling...

Haha love “puckered up solution.” Great whistle echo effects! Clever and thoughtful lyrics. Well done!

I can't whistle, either. Thanks so much for participating!
