Liner Notes

Late to the party, I know, and no real resemblance to my actual family situation. Just started with a phrase, skirmish-like, and decided to see what came out the other end! Happy to collaborate on this one as I've no idea what to do with it really... #anti_valentines #needsmusic #skirmish

Lyrics

Tomorrow the circus comes to town Family fun Heart shaped lollipops and pink Kool-Aid I say let's run I know a bar It's not too far We can stay there until it gets light For our very own adult Valentine party night

First there's our grandson Alfie The little Thug And his sister Linda-Lorelei Cute as a slug But tonight I think We ought to drink And cry about the next days delight Drown our sorrows in an adult Valentine party night

Bridge: We'll get to bed at daybreak Sleep for an hour or two Then drink a gallon of coffee And wonder what the hell to do Then decorate and bake some little fairy cakes While nursing a hung-over head Spend the afternoon in a whirling blur Then collapse back into bed

But tonight it's just the two of us Holding hands In a boozy hole in the wall Making plans For the rest of the year If we can just get clear Of tomorrow's unmissable family fight Until next year's adult Valentine party night See you at next year's adult Valentine party night

Great opening line. I think I'm gonna steal it for the next family get together. (My wife has heard much worse, I assure you.) I like the contrast between "just the two of us" and the family fight that's a brewing. And the rhyme scheme is cool. Not way out there but a little unusual for most songs I've heard this year. It works very well for me.
