It's about the dilemma of the coyote who swam to Alcatraz: https://www.sfgate.com/local/article/sf-coyote-alcatraz-relocation-21327736.php
Lyrics
Only canid on the island Endless food but my friends are silent Clever, never was I swept away Instead, followed visions of pay day
Fought to voyage here cross-current Where the flighted congregate in throngs And they left their guard down too long They sing only of their peacetime songs
Sole coyote Triumphant Feeding on the abundance Lord of this meager circumference But nobody knows me Comfort cannot console me My camaraderie’s gone from existence
Now I’m baron of this rock The prison chief Terror of your flock A flail of god left free to run amok
But when I raise my throat to cry to kin I’m confused that they’re not answering I found the Mecca, the Valhalla, mirror-land But perhaps I drowned instead of swam
And from the softly lapping shore, you cannot hear this Can I bridge this distance What could I leave this land of plenty for I’d vow to keep it and perhaps that is my weakness Contented with the fatted land As my anchor I do as I please But it doesn’t matter
A very cool perspective from which to write a song. I love the thought of him finding the Valhalla of coyote-dom. Really nice job with this. I enjoyed it.
