Lick the Screen
Liner Notes
Well this one started off as an expository about dopamine addiction and turned into a whole mess of lyrics. I actually kind of like it. It was a real catharsis to do this one. I think it has some potential to be developed further, which is cool. I like that about FAWM in that it gets me drawing inspiration from subject matter and emotional sources other than my usual tragicoromantic snoozerfests. Anyway, bonus points for anyone who can call me out for the famous Chico Buarque song I stole from to make these lyrics.
Lyrics
Listen as the morning siren cries a mouth of hungry poison in your dreams
half before the moon is settled cards are marked and stars belittled we must appease
the crooked light of rocket halos black refracting sad tornadoes your eyeballs squeeze
in the hours left of beauty churn yourself in sacred duty release your disease release your disease
such a wonderful feeling for a moment I believe floating up towards the ceiling in this room I never leave in all the secrets I am telling to the shadows that remain as the morning sun is swelling through the curtains of my brain
watching as the midday flashes wide a mouth of windy ashes we are seen
minds behind the endless lazers soulless unrepentant dangers they hide between
who might laugh and who might love you reckless faces strung and sung to can feel so mean
empty clumsy shaking fingers reach to light the answer bringer just one more thing just one more thing
such a wonderful feeling for that moment I believe floating up towards the ceiling in this room I never leave in the mysteries I am selling to this imaginary friend as my sleepless desperation smiles back at me again
touching as the daylight passes a hairless mouth of slow molasses the line between
waking up in drug hung tremors overdosed without your dinner and the moon serene
impulsive in a bedsheet salad back and forth your thoughts invalid so old and unclean
ever n ow still there it’s calling one more taste is so appalling you lick the screen you lick the screen
such a wonderful feeling for a moment I believe floating up toward the ceiling of this room I never leave
in the chasms cut clandestine from the truth within my mind my gaping heart divested of the pulse behind my time

Brilliant writing, the lyrics are just pumping out imagery and that melody and progression is full of surprises. Love the sound of your 12 string (?) and your floaty vocals. Gives me Donavan flashbacks. Great stuff
Hey man thanks! the guitar is a 10 string guitar from Brazil called a viola caipira. I am currently living in central Brazil to study it! This song is not exactly a traditional piece though...
Your voice is awesome, and to sing to these changes is really impressive! Very intriguing song all around, the lyrics are really interesting. I particularly like that line “floating up toward the ceiling of this room I never leave”, and the title is so great for this digital world we all live in. Great work!
