collateral damage is inevitable in war. that and the loss of innocence. not all battles are fought with guns.

notesdouble dipping with the weekly challenge on this skirmish. also my first ever skirmish. there are a few things needing cleanup, that one line on the bridge doesn't feel right and still working on the treatment of the title hook line. also i think the second line should be picking up from the floor instead of storm. overall i was envisioning two distinct voices / perspectives in this song between the verses and the choruses.
Lyrics
[c3] torn apart
[verse] am g f e i'm cleaning up the mess from the night before i'm sweeping up glass like confetti from the storm where my family is, i can't rightly say she took the kids somewhere this storm can not rage
[chorus] c g am f living in the aftermath of a hurricane looks like daddy's been drinking again slide the locks, turn the lights down low c g am f no lighting, no thunderbolts c f g c just a family, torn apart
[v2] am g f e all work and no play makes a boy real sad but can you blame me for making it right and you said the last time never again i guess i should have been taking notes that time
[chorus]
[bridge] dm f em am i should have known better than to let these guests into my home should have prepped down these walls, kept everything real dry but now your gone and there's nothing left to do but pop a nother bottle and chase away these blues
outro: f g c (just another family torn apart)

powerful lyrics and theme. you have such a genuine voice. it's hard to believe this is your first skirmish - excellent work!
We seem to have gone similar lyrical directions. I'm loving the lyrics here, especially "sweeping up glass like confetti from the storm". There's a sort of folksy intimacy about this one that pairs well with the lyrics. Great work!
It's very interesting seeing this kind of song from the dad's perspective very fun take!
Such an insightful and vulnerable lyric. I think the bridge works. I really like the expression in your great vocals. Powerful chorus.
Really nice voice and song! Great storytelling in the lyrics of a sad but very relatable subject! Really nice job on this skirmish!
She took the kids somewhere this storm cannot rage is a powerful line. What a heartbreaking story and so well performed. Brings a tear into the eye.
