Sawtooth Melody

Challenge: SAWTOOTH MELODYLiner Notes
I really took the challenge to heart on this one, not only basing melodies around the sawtooth theme, but making the lyrics about it as well. My approach to melody is usually pretty instinctive and harmony-based, so this was a great exercise to think about the shape of the lines.
Lyrics
Most days I keep it in Behind the barrier And when itβs growing thin I reach for another
It tends to be enough To keep me sane To keep me whole Till a ghost note flutters in my ear Your words float back to me Like a sawtooth melody
Brings me back To the time We could touch Without cutting each other to shreds A space to back away from the ledge Till those days were ripped open By a sawtooth melody
Some days Iβm living on the edge Too scared to jump Too enraged to back away Just when I think I can turn around I hear your words from another day Like a sawtooth melody
Brings me back To the time We could touch Without cutting each other to shreds A space to back away from the ledge Till those days were ripped open By a sawtooth melody
The words from that day are lost Itβs the tone that stuck in my memory The rise and the fall That stabbed in and out Like a sawtooth melody
Brings me back To the time We could touch Without cutting each other to shreds A space to back away from the ledge Till those days were ripped open By a sawtooth melody

Thank you!
Great crunch to that guitar. I really like what you've done with the vocal. Good job!
That lead guitar melody has a hit song written all over it. Very powerful chorus, and you build things towards it very tastefully. I can see a stadium full of people going absolutely mental over this.
Thank you! π€
I love the intro and the way the lead guitar carries the song throughout. Such AWESOME and creative lead work. I could just listen to the music you've created here over and over, it is beautiful, emotive.... engaging. But then there's that most excellent vocal performance adding yet another layer of awesomeness to this piece. I love the story of a note (or song) bringing back memories held back for a long time. Sawtooth Melody is such an excellent hook too!! A hit out of the park!! Incredible song from every angle. So very well done!!
Thank you so much! π
I mean, solid song all around, lots of things to touch on, the wordplay with the theme, yaddayaddayadda, but what really wants to come out is: Duuuuuuuuude... that chorus, tho...
I can hear that with a big, fat, thick, wall-of-sound arrangement. Maybe a gratuitous key change at the end? No? Just me? π
Thanks! Will have to think about that! π
I dont have any idea what the sawtooth challenge was - I was expecting some retro synth sound. I think this song far exceeds my humble hopes! The chorus absolutely jumps out at me, as does the little riff you are playing behind the verses. I think your voice has a big range and you are using it fully to take me on a journey - well done! Awesome guitar power too!
Thank you!
This is a great song Daniel. I can already imagine how it sounds when fully fleshed out. The vocals are good, the guitar tone too. It just needs a bit more bass action, and some breaks, but yes, that's a good one.
Your remark in the liner notes about the shape of the lines helped me visualize them in my head as I was listening. Very angular indeed. I like how the guitar tone itself is reminiscent of the buzz of a circular saw.
I mean, that's just my default guitar tone! π
Man these guitars are COOL.The lyric has such great agery and a super use of "sawtooth melody".
Oh, this is really cool. I really like how far you've taken the challenge and incorporated it across the board.
Brings me back To the time We could touch Without cutting each other to shreds
This is SUCH a good lyric. The melody on the chorus is a lot of fun - overall, this slaps!
Thanks!

How so? π
What an awesome listen. It was fun to listen for all the different back and forths in the melodies throughout, and going the extra mile with the lyrics too. Great vocal performance - it's got this cool and understated thing going on, even when it's soaring in the chorus. A quiet intensity that really gets brought out by the melody and the instrumental.
