I'll Leave My Keys On The Kitchen Table

Liner Notes
I liked the line "I'll Leave My Keys on the Kitchen Table" so I wrote this song about the sad end of a relationship. It's still not exactly where I would want it to be, but I've been a FAWM slacker so I have to move on.
Lyrics
I'll leave my keys on the kitchen table When i leave I won't slam the door If you can’t believe anything, I tell you There's no reason to fight this anymore
And you laugh when I say I love you You and I always keeping score I'll leave my keys on the kitchen table I'll put my feet on the floor and walk out the door
[Bridge] It's still so hard to walk away We've run out of words to say We only have ourselves to blame But there's no other way Even after all the years The truth becoming crystal clear
I'll walk alone straight into the darkness I don't know where I'm gonna go I'll leave my keys on the kitchen table One last look before I shut the door
I see my shadow in the hallway I see my picture on the wall I'll leave my keys on the kitchen table I won't be waiting for your call
[Bridge] It's still so hard to walk away This will never feel ok There ain't no easy way One last card, left to play Watching our future disappear Trying to hold back the tears
All the chapters have been written We're through trying to pretend I'll leave my keys on the kitchen table This is where our story ends

Thank you for your kind comments!
"When i leave I won't slam the door" is such a heartbreaking way to open the song. A quiet determined choice makes it all more definite.
I really like the line, "One last card left to play" because it references a similar movement as leaving keys on a table. It changes the way I read the song (it's not a bluff, not playing games, rien ne va plus)

This feels so authentic. Excellent story-telling with the kind of details that bring the picture to life. It’s appropriately sad, and it feels real. Congratulations.

Oh, this lyric and song is so sad. A sad line to start with but you flushed it out perfectly

What a great way to get into a song. Your lyrics are so thoughtfully put together here - I love how you continuously bring back the "I'll leave my keys on the kitchen table" in each stanza, and somehow it fits perfectly each time.
