Skirmish: Why You're Not In Church (@unownedart)Liner Notes
Genuinely not my intention to offend with this, it's just a song. Fun prompt in any case and here's my ditty
Lyrics
You ask me why I’m not in church That’s kind of a loaded question I could ask why you’re not in the mosque The synagogue or hindu temple
The reason is the same Don’t need that public shame Don’t feel I need to belong Or get lifted up by communal song
I don’t need to be lectured to I don’t need to be saved So don’t ask me why I’m not in church And please don’t call me depraved
It’s my choice It’s up to me So please don’t ask And just let me be
Everybody is not the same I thought we’d been through this again and again Where you’re born has an impact on you What you believe and who you turn to So forget the question, I just can’t relate I trust religion like I trust the state
It’s my choice It’s up to me So please don’t ask And just let me be Please don’t ask and just let me be

Very tuneful and really like the 'I don’t need to be lectured to I don’t need to be saved So don’t ask me why I’m not in church And please don’t call me depraved' stanza i
This one clearly inspired you - sign of a strong prompt! Nice work 🙂
Oops! I'm glad you said you found it a fun prompt. When I was looking for a skirmish slot, I saw Sunday morning was empty. Then I thought - maybe that's because too many people are in church. Of course, anyone skirmushing while church is on, isn't in church, thus the prompt. It hadn't even occurred to me that it coukd be offensive - sorry!
This is well written. I really like the sentiment you bring to the song. The chorus is simple and yet profound in how it is important across so many domains of life. Fantastic delivery!
