Fortune Teller

Nigel says: I look forward every year to collaborating with Rachel @racheleve with her lovely voice and well thought out lyrics and style. With this song, I originally wanted an ABC structure with a pre chorus and then the final chord C# major giving it a bit of a jolt. Then there is a middle section in F with a little bit of alto sax. The most important thing is Rachel's fine delivery and her story about the perils of foretelling the future.
Rachel says: I always look forward to seeing what fun arrangements Nigel is going to send me each year. I wasn't quite sure what to write about at first, but decided to use my card draw from the #oraclechallenge where I got: "Yes, you're overthinking it again. Your brain is not a fortune teller..." and Nigel's somewhat spooky and foreboding chords and arrangements led me to thinking about the lure of those who foretell futures...and how we actually might not want the certainty we say we long for so much of the time!
Lyrics
The Fortune Teller
Intro 1: Come see The future No longer Will you wonder
Verse 1: You’re overthinking it again Trying to see what’s coming through a cloudy lens When only I hold the key Come inside for a small fee I’ll consult my crystal ball
Intro 2: Come breathe Relief No more Uncertainty
Verse 2: Ask all the questions that you’d like Because I’ve got that second sight And if the answers don’t agree With all your hopes and all your dreams Sorry, there’s no way to unsee
Bridge But isn’t it nice to know Where you’re going next Isn’t it nice to know It’s not what you’d expect

Cool jazz vibe. I agree the vocalist is great 😬 I like the chord progressions. Nicely done 😬
This has such a smooth sound, and the story fits the mood perfectly. I love how the vocals glide over those jazzy chords!
