Paraskevidekatriaphobia

Liner Notes

So I know this is 2 days too late, but I decided to write a song about Friday the 13th.

I looked in to how many Friday the 13ths there are a year and apparently it averages 1.7 (it's usually one a year, sometimes two and on rare occasions three). There are lots of thoughts on why it's believed to be an unlucky day - and it's not unanimously considered unlucky around the world.

As with all phobias it has a name - Paraskevidekatriaphobia

I was overjoyed by this as I had been insanely jealous of @rogerhammond for managing to fit the word Electroencephalography into a song (a mere 9 syllables).

(Can anyone top a 11 syllable word in a song?)

For those interested in the gear side -

This was recorded using Cubase Elements. Guitar used was a Gibson Les Paul, Bass was a Squier PJ with upgraded EMG active pickups put through the Cubase VST Amp simulator for a bit of distortion Drums were from the Cubase Groove Agent library - played real time from a keyboard controller Horns, synth and sample sounds are all from the stock Cubase sound libraries. Vocals were recorded using an SE Electronic 2200A condenser mic.

Lyrics

I ripped open the curtains, Everything looked sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet. I glanced up at the calendar, Then back down at my feet, It's Friday 13th!

Paraskevidekatriaphobia , Paraskevidekatriaphobia.

Friday, Friday, Friday, Friday 13th!

I know I'm being irrational, There ain't nothing to fear, It only comes once, twice, Maybe three times a year

Paraskevidekatriaphobia Friday, Friday, Paraskevidekatriaphobia

Friday, Friday, Friday, Friday 13th!,

Paraskevidekatriaphobia , Paraskevidekatriaphobia .

😀 - That's the best comment I could ask for.

How did you manage to make Paraskevidekatriaphobia feel catchy? I just love your backing vocals, they are the best kind of chaotic, and they add so much texture. Not to mention the horn lines! And the explosion at the end. gah! This is such a fun listen. I think I'll go around for a third time.

@kevo

This is awesome, David Bowie meets Talking Heads, what a vibe! Great guitar part, great vocals, great track!

If I had a pound for every time I'd heard a song about this subject, I'd have £1 by now. I second the comment about B52 vocal delivery (Whammy! era); really like the choppity chop guitars (and, as ever, the live drum feel).

@mace66

I think I only know two B52's songs ('Love Shack' and 'Rock Lobster') so it wasn't a conscious decision, but now people are saying it, I can definitely see what you mean.

Haha ... thanks for the reference and it seems 'electroencephalography' was a little inspiration for you... kudos on building around this impossible word. The song is wonderful too! Love the 80s/B52s vibe, warbling vibrato vocals, the electric guitar choppy riffs and the funky bass. Great stuff! ... 11 syllables ... impressive 😂

@mace66

Most definitely spurred on by the challenge of 'electroencephalography' - I do like the occasional unusual word in a song...

I'm off to go and Google some 12 syllable words...

Antidisestablishmentarianism is just begging for attention from the lyrical songwriting community

D'oh... now I can't get that out of my head...

Haha... good luck!!! 😂😂 ... by the way if you wanted to venture into German or Dutch then the possibilities are endless ... though you might need an operation to be able to pronounce them

This is wonderful! Groovy as hell. Extremely well performed. I especially like the rythm you sang the lyrics in. Perfect. Just perfect. :-)
