What We're All Here For
Liner Notes
I wanted to write a jam. Here's a bunch of stuff I think is true.
This song was NOT cooperating lmao. It started as this long, drawn out thing about clowns and clown stuff, then in morphed into like a New Orleans funk thing, then I think I wrote 3 different lyrics for it with that groove, and the lyrics were not hitting, then I switched to the shuffley gospelly thing and it sorta just kinda made more sense in that vibe so I retooled the lyrics again then I just pushed it through to the end and here we are.
Lyrics
What We’re All Here For
Here’s to the freaks Here’s to the clowns Here’s to the people who bother people The people who give space And the people who make a joyful sound Here’s to the people who make our garden grow Who are not afraid to share their soul
Listen to the guy who listens to the trees If you wanna be happy or you wanna be free The rootsy women giving us our medicine Who heard you the first time, or needed to hear it again
There’s stars in the nothing, that cut through the dark Where there’s way too much that’s where you make your mark The world is in need now of you and your art And if it still feels impossible That’s where you start
And if it still feels impossible That’s where you start
I wanna make it all a little bit better I wanna make us all love a little more Make it easier to understand What we’re all here for (What we’re all here for!) What we’re all here for (What we’re all here for!) What we’re all here for (What we’re all here for!) What we’re all here for (What we’re all here for!)
Here’s to the freaks Here’s to the clowns Here’s to the ones who make a joyful sound Here’s to the people who make our garden grow Who are not afraid to share their soul
Your attention is your weapon, don’t let it get dull Your energy, your power, better get it through your skull Seek out the helpers, seek out the change Make room for the awkward, the weak and the strange
An oasis in the desert, and it’s totally real Where you lay down your burdens and lay out your feels The wisdom you’re seeking will soon be revealed And if it still feels impossible That’s where you heal
And if it still feels impossible That’s where you heal
I wanna make it all a little bit better I wanna make us all love a little more Make it easier to understand What we’re all here for (What we’re all here for!) What we’re all here for (What we’re all here for!) What we’re all here for (What we’re all here for!) What we’re all here for (What we’re all here for!)
Here’s to the freaks Here’s to the clowns Here’s to the ones who make a joyful sound Here’s to the people who make our garden grow Who are not afraid to share their soul

DAYUM, this may be one of my favorite FAWM songs of 2026! What a great song! Wait, lemme turn dat up...WHAT A GREAT SONG!!! I loved every single second of my listen! I am sooo glad this song "was NOT cooperating" because the effort you put in resulted in something Special! I LOVE the messages. I LOVE the music/melody/guitar! I LOVE your vocals! I LOVE the dynamics you've built in with vocal volume as well as timing! This song is the Best kind of gospel! It was a pleasure to discover your song!
I think you did a good job wrestling the beast as you did, and I loved the muffled screams of the crowds as you tried to fill in the gaps that your head hears but your beautiful fingers couldn’t quite manifest.
And if it still feels impossible, that’s where you heal.
What a line, you find yourself in the journey and the liminal space you make is where you bridge the could be’s and will be’s that make the fractured image whole. Great stuff brother.
I think the shuffley, gospelly thing works really well for this. Some great uplifting lyrics, and the call and response part on "what we're all here for" is fun. Really well done.
You know I would be screaming along... I like the idea that this rolled through all the New Orleans to Shuffle on the way... Has a bit a Randy Newman vibe, married to Harry Connick, jr.
And no I didn't just say you are the love child of Randy Newman and Harry Connick, jr.
