ruins of the world below

Liner Notes

this is sort of a companion piece to the other dungeon synth song i've written for fawm this year ("lifted into the starlit void"), with the idea being that each should be able to flow into the other relatively smoothly. i'm not totally satisfied with this one, at least not as much as with the previous one, but it's at a point where i think it's good enough for fawm purposes so i don't want to spend any more time on it for now. this one deliberately leans more into the "dungeon" side of dungeon synth in terms of instruments/timbres used (especially in the first half), but i'm definitely still prioritizing retro/lo-fi sounding stuff over anything realistic

I've probably played too many JRPGs, but anime ancient Japan was what I thought of here. That water drippy synth is a nice sound and you've used it well.

sorry for the extremely delayed response (have been preoccupied with working on a song and not keeping up with comments on already uploaded stuff). i can see how this one might sound kind of evocative of ancient Japan. i was definitely aiming for sort of a video game music sound so understandable to bring up JRPGs as well. thanks for the comment!

It sounded good to me. I'm definitely getting the "dungeon" aspect of the atmosphere. Very nice job with this.
