Paint Me Out

Liner Notes
In cinema, when a crew member gets in the shot, the VFX team will “paint it out.” I thought this was a cheeky play on my old band's name. & the story is about someone who gets stuck in their past, left behind, and thus painted out.
Lyrics
I was caught in my hiding spot So paint me out I should not be in the shot So paint me out See my reflection I’m there in a mirror Caught in the frame when the camera moves near Couldn’t see me any clearer Without a doubt you’ll paint me out
There is nothing but ideas Write them down Don’t be fooled by the glory days Cut it out The past was not better You’re sullen and bitter you cry like a quitter again The ocean felt wetter Your attitude changed You missed a few seasons now the story seems strange
I was caught in my hiding spot So paint me out I should not be in the shot So paint me out The world is not concrete Hard as it may be It’s somewhere between a wave and a dream Yet all of it’s real - strange as that seems So paint what you are and say what you mean

now i want a Paint Me In, too guitars sound so great, love the delicate melodic hook and the reharmonizations
Nice waltz feel! Healthy message to be present in the lyrics, good work.
"You missed a few seasons now the story seems strange" is a killer line
I love the vocal layers! Such a cool metaphor to base a song around, I love the last few lines.
Love the waltz flow, the different instruments and textures, better/bitter/quitter/wetter is really well done. Melody's very catchy, too, and the message is spot on!
Love the wide pans of guitar and the articulate fast strumming in the chorus! Playful yet serious, and the last lyric is a sober reality check "paint what you are and say what you mean". Nice one.
