I began this “sawtooth melody” challenge in the same way as I did my last attempt, although I vocalized a much slower sawtooth spanning a much larger range. Again I used Suno, which allows you to record or upload an auditory prompt. Once I had recorded the auditory prompt, I improvised a set of lyrics.

The concept that came to me immediately was the idea of distance and spanning distance between two people and how no distance either great or small is enough to prevent love. Once I’d completed the lyrics, I typed in a music genre prompt. I went through multiple iterations—probably six or so— taking the best draft of each previous iteration and “covering” that draft with a freshly tweaked prompt. The final prompt that resulted in what you hear below was the following:

Acoustic Pop, Big Acoustic Guitar Rhythms, Alt-Folk, Male Vocals, Rich Tight Male Vocal Harmonies, Dramatic, Dance

I'm in awe of your process -- the lyrics fit so beautifully that I can hardly believe they didn't drive the music. Your voice, production; everything is glorious. I'm a new fan in a big way (got here via your sea shanty).

Thank you Beth! I’ve always been an experimenter in art and music making. I love starting somewhere random and allowing myself to follow whatever thread appears. Works better for me than starting with a “big idea”. I’ll be checking out your stuff soon!
