Who are really the Hollow Men?

Lyrics

V1 Fireworks guys at least are filled with straw Keep your pennies, these days it's a pound If I had one for every straw I saw My life would still be owed to the sharks downtown

V2 Trying to fill the holes with discount pints I'll still get blamed for seeking consolation Six-pack armies brought up for the fight Slowly die for profits or quickly for the nation

CH Life from the backseat Or life as a captive Dealt a card and a path to live Cash to burn, or trapped by birth Who determines what I'm worth? Who determines what I'm worth?

V3 Follow my dreams and deepest passion! Show my gratitude for every day! Luck depends on my reaction! And all the other shit that privileged people say

CH Life from the backseat Or life as a captive Dealt a card and a path to live Cash to burn, or trapped by birth Who determines what I'm worth? Who determines what I'm worth?

FINAL CH Fireworks guys at least are filled with straw

Very cool melody/chord changes. And I'm not sure I've ever seen a lyric and title here at FAWM based on T.S. Eliot. Nice work, Adam!

An unexpected vocal melody that works so well. A pound is the new penny. Now there's something to think about. This composition is filled with unexpected melodic direction and it is all the better for it. As you say "never boring". I love that your asking the questions that so many of us dwell upon.

Great lyrics. One thing I like about it is that I think you give the listener a little room to interpret the meaning for themselves. Nice performance of the song as well - I think the pace and tone are just right for the song

So many intriguing messages here. This is a song that will mean more each time I listen. Great attribute for a song. And I like your strong vocal.

Interesting song. Caught my attention because I am working on something with the same title (but directly referencing the TS Eliot work). I particularly like the chorus and the beginning verse melody. I also liked that the conclusion is phrased as a question not a declaration.

Thanks so much NR - the fireworks night guy image came from TS Eliot but then I diverged - I look forward to yours.

This is really brilliant! I think I might have been following you because of another song I heard from you (not sure) but this is very good - good melody, chord choices, and the emptiness in both the arrangement and the sentiment really work well together. I am a huge Billy Bragg fan and if you sung this in a much worse voice I could be persuaded this was one of his songs! I bookmarked this one

Thanks FK - BB was the first concert I saw at University in 1984 and still a big influence
