People Without Hope
by @danielkelly
Liner Notes
The Neverending Story film is one of those rights of passage, where as a child you learn that there is evil in the world and sometimes your horse dies. I watched it with my youngest three sons tonight.
Lyrics
G Em C D G People without hope, are easy to control, C G D And the one who has control, has the power, G Em C D G With every passing day, a bit more slips away, C G D G As the sorrow and the nothing drag us under.
I once held on to dreams, hopeless as that seems, In the face rising fear, and hate and anger, I believed there was a way, to make the magic stay, return to the land of innocence and wonder.
G C G But it’s gone, oh it’s gone, C G Fantasisa is all gone, C G D Every rock and tree and river, In the land, Yes its gone, oh it’s gone, Fantasia is all gone, C D G Remembered in one glowing piece of sand.
And who then stands to gain, from our faithless pain, Who wins when all the magic is forgotten, Who works behind the scenes, trampling our dreams, And building a reality that’s rotten.
Luck Dragons they don’t fly, makes me want to cry, And the mud is almost up unto the bridle, Now my good strong hands, are zip tied to the van, The best that I can hope for is survival,

I took you up on that.
Oof. This paints a usefully bleak picture of what lack of hope does individually and collectively -- and whatever the context (I've never seen the movie) it's an important metaphor ("zip tied to the land." and works as one. The "and who then stands to gain" stanza is key. I love what you do musically with those short last lines in the verses. I'm so glad you ended with the "can we rebuild" line.
Also, as an aside, I do voices. And one i do is the Rock monster's "good...strong....hands"
My ex gf HATED it. Smacked me every time.
Mmm. Makes me wanna add harmonies.
I'm taken back to the folk concerts I attended when I was younger (back when peter paul and Mary were all still with us)
Very nice.
Thanks for listening @robcrusade, sorry to hear that your ex didn’t appreciate your talent! You're welcome to do a mix with harmonies if you want.
I think i may take you up on that.
Very powerful. Reflecting the terrible times many of us are living through. The hint of hope makes the loss just bearable.
