Liner Notes
It's my sisters Birthday tomorrow so my wife and I co-wrote her this song. My wife wrote the verse she sang as well as the chord progression for the verses. And ironically before we met in the middle to join our ideas I had opted for the exact same chord progression that my wife had selected in her verse. Strange how that happened. Then I made the chorus, wrote the lyrics to my verse and interlude that functions also as the end of the chorus.
My sister has been going through hard times lately. We grew up in a neighbourhood called Deer Run so I ran with the pun and the symbolism of a Deer. To me, (and google) a deer represents the bridge between the material and the spirit world, innocence, grace and seen as a guide in life. The antler shedding lyric is related to how her recent hard times has left her with a decision to start a new chapter in her life or cling to the old.
Lyrics
We were innocent and we still are Growing up in Georgia my we've come so far Her brother was from Jupiter He knew that he was stupider Her brother had a sister and she came from Mars Together we split life's candy bars We played till night turned into day Lightning bugs to carry us away
Deer Run, run from grace Deer Run, run through space Deer Run, you'll find the answer Deer Run, shed your antlers She's quick of whit, sharp of mind If you love her get in line
She sweet, a little bit spicy And she likes to be reminded Just how beautiful she is, and beautiful, she is She'll love you like no other Probably gets that from her mother Don't expect to be on time Living slow suits her just fine, just fine
Deer Run, run from grace Deer Run, run through space Deer Run, you'll find the answer Deer Run, shed your antlers She's quick of whit, sharp of mind If you love her get in line

absolutely love the wordplay with the planets, the jupiter/stupider rhyme was so good and got me giggle. gorgeous harmonies, both of your voices are great and so cool that you and your wife make music together. it's wild that you and your wife both came up with the same progression - perhaps it has something to do with how tapped in you are to your sister's vibe. nice!
This is so sweet, songs for your family are so special. Thanks for letting me peak deeper into your world! You and Suzy blend together beautifully. A favourite from the ones I've heard this year.
This is such a lovely song. And those harmonies! What a generous gift to give!
