Up and Down

There is no demo for this song.

Liner Notes

This and "Left to Right" comprise the alpha test of a songwriting card game I made up today. Beta testing happens tomorrow, and then I'll probably make a forum thread explaining the game so everyone can play it themselves.

It's a two player game where one person is writing their song horizontally while the other writes a song vertically. Guess which one this is.

I think I made my grid too dense in this round though, so almost all of the lines are in both songs, just in a different order.

This may or may not end up on an album I'm still working out the exact theme of, called "Wildly Swinging". It's probably to do with mood swings and/or swing dancing and/or picking fights somewhat recklessly.

Lyrics

Caught up inside the monsoon I don't live at my own pace She threatens, she tells me I'll never have my own place

It's a new day I wear it on my sleeve And as the sun rises Get out! Scram! Go! Leave! The old witch whispers We all used to live on the moon My girlfriend is from outer space I'll be going home soon

I love you more than that More than thunderstorms love lightning Let it be exciting The stormiest of weather Will be the death of me someday But can't keep me down I will always come out fighting

But keep your eyes on the wolf As he ladles me into a bowl Stirs the pot Swallows me whole But I love her anyway I'm on the rise like high noon With the dangling chains That drag me from room to room

Try not to seem like a rat We're all in this boat together There's a time and place for everything But sometimes things are better

There are some striking images here and that opening line, not the least of them, creates quite the atmosphere. And there is quite a progression from monsoons to thunderstorms to wolves and rats. A lot to take in but still well formed.
