Liner Notes

We have been using pictures to prompt stories/lyrics. @fabkebab started this off using the Ansel Adams photograph – Moonrise – Hernandez, NM. He passed that lyric off to me for the music and we went back and forth from there.

Lyrics

Ariana

Words and Music by Ron Tintner and Andrew Richardson ©2026, ASCAP

Mission in Hernandez, no sun, it’s cold and dark Your shadow in the dying moon… vivid, gray and stark Distant mountains, snowy peaks, frame this somber scene And I’m with you Ariana in this dream within a dream

Chorus: I never should have loved you Ariana I never should have taken you aside I never would have left you Ariana If only you had given me a sign

Mesquite and brown adobe sprinkled through the night Past homes, the graveyard crosses and the limits of my sight I know the time has come and gone for me to pack and go Leave behind this tortured town and everything I know

CHORUS

I want to travel east to the longleaf pines But what am I to do Where green things grow, and silver water shines But everything I see makes me think of you

I never should have left you Ariana I never should have taken you aside I never would have left you Ariana If only you had given me a sign

Tag: No, I never could have left you Ariana… If only you had given me a sign

Great lyrics. They could be put in many different musical contexts. Good lyrics are like that.

Oh, how peppy! This one really moves along and keeps me entertained from start to finish. While I am visually inspired by Ansel Adams, I never thought of his work as a launching pad for a song. Maybe I should look at more of his photographs.

Hey now! Two of my favorite Musers in one! This has great energy, super cool swing. The drums set a nice groove. Nice shape to the melody, and I love that interval jump on Ariana near the end of each chorus. Strong imagery, easy to picture and you select appropriate settings for the mood.

Great work, Ron and Andrew!

Beautiful song and collaboration. Love the energy and the connection between the lyrics and the music.

This is a total blast. It's a beautifully structured song, verse chorus bridge all do the things you want, in all the right places. The end ties it up with a bow. I don't know what that crazy-fast snare drum pattern is called, I guess it is redolent of certain US country styles? but I love it. Great vocal performance too. This is the complete package.
