Skirmish: Surprise! (@narwhalsexist)Liner Notes
UPDATE: Demo now posted! #twochords #guywithpiano #guywithbadcold #lovesong I struggled with this until I spotted the two chord skirmish, and suddenly it flowed. Bad cold notwithstanding.
Consider these lyrics a first draft. Great topic for a #skirmish. I'm just back from traveling with a nasty cold, and my brain isn't at 100% today. So, quick lyrics, and I'm envisioning a #folkrock approach, but I'd love to #collaborate if these lyrics strike your fancy.
Lyrics
I Don't Much Like Surprises (c) 2026 raspberry33 Verse 1: I don't much like surprises, when my calendar has plans, Morning coffee spilled and then the day slipped through my hands. My armor is a schedule with boxes to be ticked Surprises are things one cannot predict
Prechorus: But then your name lights up my screen like a misfit neon sign, And suddenly my tidy lines wobble out of line.
Chorus: I don’t much like surprises — I’m already overscheduled today, but you’re a welcome surprise - Always, anytime A shortcut on my map, steal the clock, steal the space, I’ll trade my tidy checklist for the wonder of your face You’re the most pleasant surprise.
Verse 2: There’s a meeting in five minutes, a memo I can’t find An old guitar riff humming in a corner of my mind. Paper piles unsorted, an impossible deadline And then you’re here, and everything is fine
Bridge: The inbox’s signal says two hundred messages unread The boss wants product yesterday, his boss fills us with dread But your laugh spills like sunlight through the blinds I leave half-closed, And I find the steady rhythm is the one I never chose.
CHORUS and out

Unwelcome versus welcome surprises- great theme for the skirmish! “Laugh spills like sunlight” love this line, looking forward to the music!
A misfit neon sign is a great line. I feel the overwhelm in these lyrics, with the relief of surprise. Nice work!
Very sweet and real to life! Life is so often crazy. Excellent song!
Yes surprises are unpredictable! Totally agree. My motto is "if you're going to surprise me, give me at least two day's notice". Love the gentle references to your visitor. Like a very unstated love song. Cheers
