Oort Cloud
by @clioem
Liner Notes
The Oort Cloud is a theoretical, enormous spherical cloud in space that envelops the outer reaches of our star system and is thought to be the source of many comets we see.
This track is a part of the soundtrack for my upcoming indie game.
Composed entirely on the Ableton Move, exported as audio, then cut up, rearranged a bit, and produced in Logic.

The smallest ship is a great mental image :D I love it!
I literally had the vibe from the moment I clicked on this... great score sound and then saw the indie game aspect and I'm even more intrigued. Would love to learn more about the indie game.
Hey thanks! So the game is sci-fi and it's a solo dev project, which means I'm going to be doing the lion's share of it (but I'd like to get some help from a friend or two along the way). It'll be heavily audio-driven, and I think I have a really unique concept. It's going to be some pretty classical sci-fi, magical and special, but let's just say, I'm a big fan of Carl Sagan (not to give too much away)... Pale Blue Dot is a fave in our household. If you want to keep in the loop I'll be updating info on my page once I feel good releasing more. You can follow my projects on Instagram if you like! https://instagram.com/clio_em
Beautiful yet bleak enough to reflect just how empty space actually is...
I really appreciate this comment! I was rather stunned to find out how far apart objects in the Oort Cloud (also our asteroid belt, the Kuiper belt, and other cosmic agglomerations) actually are... the scales are so vast and mind-bending!
I like how the sounds are rather "small" and direct. The delay feedback makes the melody swirl into space
Thank you! It was a bit of a challenge to compose something so spare, but it was also my first time working seriously on my new Ableton Move (the sweetest little synth, I highly recommend it) and this lent itself perfectly to such creation! It has only four tracks per song, so it was a nice exercise in constraints driving creative impulses. I put the resulting audio into logic after and processed it a tiny bit, but it's all composed on the Move (literally on trains and transit), so I feel pretty glad that this "limited" impetus came across!
This track oozes loneliness and the emptiness and coldness. Feels like wandering the cold and empty vastnessness of the Oort cloud. Far from the light and warmth of the inner solar system.
Thank you muchly!
This is cool and the title seems to fit very well with the music. Very spacey and eerie. Like the dynamics going on with it too.
Really appreciate the kind feedback!
I’m super into gaming OST’s and this is a neat piece! i love older games without a full VO narrating with well composed music and well written prose. I wonder what this piece will be used for in your game? I wish you good luck in your compositions for your indie game — i’m following for more for sure!
Oh cool! I'm thinking something more functional perhaps, like a menu? I'm not sure yet! Thanks for the kind feedback.
I dig it! Cool sound and melody
Thanks!
This makes me imagine the smallest space ship drifting and drifting through the emptiness. Nicely done.
