Cafe Fears

Liner Notes
I wrote these lyrics some time ago. I thought now is the right time to sing them.
Lyrics
One of my worst fears Is to see you at a coffee shop, one day With wife and kid in tow, you pay at the counter Looking sharp in business casual
And I’m sitting in the corner of the cafe Melted ice in my half-drunk matcha latte And I’m single and not done with my degree In the field you called useless in front of me
You buy your wife a caramel macchiato Or maybe it’s for you You were always so fond of those sweet drinks Weren’t you?
One of my worst fears Is that I steal a glance at your familiar face And you yell at your kid sitting behind me Shout that he's drinking your coffee
You turn to look here and, it's not my face that you see first But the half-eaten cake I chose for my dessert And you recognize the flavor was your favorite And you remember why you ever started hating it
One of my worst fears Other than heights and deep seas Is that when you by chance get to see me You don't feel hate, but recognition And that neutrality would leave me wishing that Maybe if things had ended different that night We’d still friends and share the same old pastimes Maybe if we weren’t so hard on each other Maybe I’d have married you And be a mother
One of my worst fears is that I'd see you again it's a fear for a reason, it's self-treason to even try to forget
Oh, you're still my worst fear and my biggest regret

This a poignant reflection on how a routine, mundane situation can become traumatic in our thoughts. The melody is charming and disarming which adds to the contrast of the emotions of the lyrical content. Very nice.
Absolutely beautiful song, singing and playing. Moving, poignant, vulnerable yet powerful. Your voice shines and soares. Gorgeous work. You absolutely should sing. It is a great pleasure to listen to your song. Truly special work. I hear sadness and determination in a very beautiful way.
Beautifully wistful lyric and you have a beautiful voice. So pretty! Happy FAWM!
I love story songs like this! There is a wry, witty vibe here that is very appealing. The feeling of disappointment and “future loss” is handled beautifully. The details of the story were perfect. I also liked the abrupt ending. Nice job here!
