Skirmish: A fake song from your fav... (@bunga)Liner Notes
#lyricsonly Hours late for the skirmish, but a rewarding exercise. Part 2: Imagine Yes taking a mysterious and jaded look at identity through the lens of myth and the music industry. Part 1, added later: The question of identity rises out of the primordial swamp. Part 3, a week later: identity as practice.
Lyrics
Part 1
Evil I can take down the evil eye. I know how to cut the cords, that’s why. What makes us rise above the muck? It must be more than luck.
Life fell from space into the clay. Fast forward to where we stand today, Staking claim to sacred ground. Drive the hammer down.
Easy to do, Ha, easy for you to say.
So rev up. Rev up. Rev up So much That the lights of the stage fall away. Rev up.
Part 2 Midas, Record hit gold. Radio says The style got old. Mount Doom Lava will flow, Heavy metal fumes The closer you go.
Time warp, Rock and roll died. Never mind the vinyl, Get the poster inside. CD Eating your desk, Downloads are easier, Who would have guessed?
Samson Cut the wire. Wings came undone In the heat of the fire. Same name, Players unknown, Little Mermaid On the saxophone.
Here’s what I want to know, for real. Is there a ghost behind the wheel, A gambler reaching for another spin, As without, so within?
So rev up. Rev up. Rev up So much That the lights on the stage fall away. Rev up.
Part 3
I’m mesmerized by what you do. It comes so naturally to you. You must have practiced for a century Before you got to me.
If I could see the things you see, I don’t know what you see in me. You know the clock, you know the score, At the line with a roar.
See the leaves, and you see the tree. Rehearsal is reality. Who am I but the places I go in my mind? I know what I‘ll find.
Easy to do, Ha, easy for you to say.
So rev up. Rev up. Rev up So much That the frame of the stage Falls away. Rev up.
You are The good You see And do
You are The gold The tale You told
You are Already The future Destiny
Easy to do, Easy for you,
So rev up. Rev up. Rev up So much The name Falls Away. Rev up.

Thanks. Yeah, that was a big idea, hard work and a lot of research to write.
I love all the different mythological/fantastical characters that pop up and mixing that with performance metaphors. Really strong work.
