I have been enjoying a youtube channel about urban planning and transport called Not Just Bikes recently. He is a big fan of trams (or streetcars, if you are American), and I totally get why. I found myself toying with the first two lines today, so I sat down and pushed around some lyrics, and an hour late, I had … this. Whatever it is.

I exaggerated the line about the bus slightly for dramatic effect: There is a bus line in my neighborhood, but it runs so rarely (and at times that are so poorly coordinated with the trains) that it is all but useless to me. And, sadly, I currently do not own a functional bike.

Eine wohldurchdachte Straßenbahn ist eine Zierde für die Stadt. Sie ist umweltfreundlich effizient da sie Elektro-Antrieb hat. Sie gleitet elegant dahin auf Schienen leise, sanft und glatt, vorbei am Stau in Windeseile quer durch die ganze Stadt.

Ich wünscht', es gäbe eine Straßenbahn in meiner kleinen Heimatstadt. Kreuz und quer zu jedem Ort führ' ich den lieben langen Tag! Doch in meiner Nachbarschaft hält leider nicht einmal ein Bus, und weil es keine Tramway gibt fahr' ich halt mit dem Rad!

================================= English Translation (or attempt thereof)

A well-thought out streetcar is a an adornment for the city. It is efficient in an eco-friendly way because it has electric propulsion. It glides elegantly on tracks, quietly, gently and smoothly, past the traffic jam swiftly as the wind across the whole city.

I wish there was a streetcar in my small home town. Every which way to all the places I would ride all day long. But alas, in my neighborhood not even a bus stops, and because there is no tramway I just ride my bike!

Das ist entzücklich! Und soweit ich mich erinnere, der erste Straßenbahnsong, den ich höre in diesem Jahrhundert (vulgo Jahrtausend)! Das hab ich bisher sogar auf FAWM vermisst. Bravo!
