You Wanted the Moon

Liner Notes

A friend of mine got caught in a white knight loop and ended up feeling like a graduated therapy dog.

I really tried to not rip off Your Time is Gonna Come, I promise. #alternatetuning #sadbastardmusic

Lyrics

I thought I had enough hands To carry all of your demands To follow through with all your plans I might have shouldered the weight of the world But you cracked the oyster for the pearl

You wanted the moon You always wanted the moon I said I could see her face You said you wanted space too

I set my steps inside your prints But I never got the hint Sorta looks the same if I squint But you’re building yourself up to be Something better without me

You wanted the moon You always wanted the moon I said I could see her face You said you wanted space too

I took my worth from helping you I never thought about what you would do When you didn’t need me anymore in fact Now that you know all this about yourself I think you’d rather be with anyone else

The more I see you grow Learn about letting go Telling me what you need Even when i plant the seed You need something different You need someone different It’s not me You are someone different It’s not me It’s not me

Not only do i like the lyrics but the way you delivered them sounds amazing. Beautiful vocal melodies. The vocal could up a db or so but really sounds great as is. Outstanding work!

You've followed through on this premise beautifully, unfolding the story with effective lyrics - "I might have shouldered the weight of the world/But you cracked the oyster for the pearl" is particularly good. I also love the melodic shift in the chorus and then the move back to the super catchy groove of the verses.

Beautiful vocal and gentle performance; sweet visuals; ear candy line by line and wonderful harmonies! Absolutely stunning! Love what you have done here!

Wonderful melodies. I can hear a tremendous feeling of sadness and longing here. Still there is a hint of hope in the undercurrent. I don't know. I think this is good but now I am resonating with the sadness.

@owl

Those opening lines really grab you! This is packed full of clever phrasing and incisive emotional awareness—the moon and “wanting space” chorus wordplay is so great.

Shucks, thanks

Oh wow, "I thought I had enough hands" is such a killer opening line. The haunting backing vocals add so much. Very nice!

Thank you so much!

I LOVE this bridge! The juxtaposition of “you need something different” with “you are something different” is so good

Terrific song. Plain but profound meaning. Love the moon motif & especially the lonesome harmony.

Dig the low strings and self deprecation/awareness!

Dig the tune! I especially enjoyed the backing vocals and the production choices on the acoustic guitar. Lots of fun timbres going on here.

The directness of the verses play so well against the double entendre of moon/space in the chorus, bravo! 👏 👏 👏
