The Jefferson

Liner Notes

My parents and I had a pretty contentious relationship for a long time. That was for a lot of reasons on both sides, but I am much happier and more at peace now that we talked through some of our issues and have a better relationship now

Playing around with MIDI to mask a weak guitar performance!

Lyrics

The receptionist greets me as I walk through the door Take the elevator to the 21st Floor Apartment in the clouds, a new phase of life Put it all behind us, the struggle and the strife

Did you know You can let it go? There will be more room For new things to bloom

Put my coat down and take a seat "How about that weather?" and "What did you eat?" I never thought it could be like this In younger days between the fighting and the fits

Did you know You can let it go? There will be more room For new things to bloom

Learning Love Languages and admitting past mistakes Using new ingredients to bake a different cake Unless you make a change, the cycle does repeat So call 'em up, hear 'em out, and take 'em out to eat

Did you know You can let it go? There will be more room For new things to bloom

Go and tell your friends You can make amends Before it is too late You will be so grateful

Did you know You can let it go? There will be more room For new things to bloom

i love these chord progressions, especially on the verse - there's a really nostalgic quality to how you put them together. love this line: There will be more room For new things to bloom

Oh, wow -- "Did you know/You can let it go?" hits hard! Well done. I'm messing around with MIDI, too -- really like what you did with this.

I really love this. Wild how much can change with this approach. It does take all parties, for sure, heh.

This is an unbelievably beautiful texture, the organ was such a vital and unexpected choice! The constant tension between feeling the beat in 2 or in 3 reminds me so much of Nick Drake - "Parasite". I also love the double meaning of the title: I assume it alludes to the title of the specific building, but it could also be a wry pun on the Norman Lear show, The Jeffersons, whose opening theme relies so heavily on the idea of moving to a better apartment as a signifier of increased social/financial success.
