Holy Yorkshire Grail
by @danielkelly
Liner Notes
This might be the first time I've written two songs down in the same notebook!
Musing here on how I might feel as a middle aged Knight forced to buy into all the false chivalry and pompousness.
Anyone else love #Yorkshire tea?
Lyrics
G Bm7 C D I don’t really care to go rescuing maidens, G Am C D It’d rather help a shepherdess round up her sheep, G Bm7 C D All this obsession with princesses and virgins, Em D G Please let me just go to sleep,
C D
The grail for me, Em Is a nice cup of tea, C D Bm/G At the end of a day of being kind,
I don’t need to vanquish all my knight brothers, By lance or by mace or by sword, I love a good melee, and riding my charger, But striving to win makes me bored,
The king has a fear, of castles with witches, It’s something I don’t understand, Strong women with magic, don’t need beheading, They help feed the strength of the land,
I don’t need to see, unimagined wonders, The flower and trees do for me, Stop hunting down, all the magical creatures, I think I will just let them be,
Comments
I am fond of cup of tea myself, ideally accompanied by lemon drizzle cake or a flapjack. Anyway, this has a great folk feel and the lyric is very well put together too. Here's to a world where more people had the same grail.
“The grail for me is a nice cup of tea” is a relatable sentiment!
You put down your rock, and I'll put down my sword, and we'll put on the kettle for a nice cup of tea, as god intended. 🫖
I love the grail - a traditional brown earthen teapot? As an adopted Yorkshire person, tea is just the thing in the morning. Preferably with witches, female, or male, or anything they choose.
