Deck Full of Jokers

Liner Notes

Quite a wade through metaphor on this one. A simple sounding enough folk song but this one took some grind to get here. I'm at 90% and as far as I'm taking it for now.

Trying my hand at a true folk protest song and using the kazoo in its role as a protest instrument for attention and dissonance.

*Edit - my dad just texted to remind me today would have been my grandma's 100th birthday. I guess that's where I got the inspiration to do a song about cards.

Lyrics

You've been making Some pretty bad bets Yeah the house always wins But we won't forget

It's no gamble You aren't playing with luck You can't cash out now cause you cheated and we’re calling your bluff.

The deck is full of jokers And you jokers are wild No matter how many hearts we play You beat our hands with clubs

You invite corrupt players Try to play your bad hands On other tables

We all know the failure Of your gambling dens And we can see you're gonna Bust again

The deck is full of jokers And you jokers are wild We're gonna show up with spades Deal your icy diamonds away

You're not playing a full house We can all see your tiny hands If it's not a straight, it's a discard Your jokers can't Trump us It's time to call your hand. (Your tiny little hands)

-kazoo of justice-

The deck is full of jokers And you jokers are wild You've stacked your private deck But you're gonna lose the bet

Oh man this is so good! Kazoo of justice!! Sent it to one of my activist friend who brings up "The Gambler" in explaining SO MANY things because the overlap is undeniable lol

This is some good protest folk. Solid metaphor work, solid jabs at a man whose hands are too small. I’m tired of jokers gone wild! I like the small plucked parts that go back into the heavy strums.

Very defiant kazoo, he’s on the front line for sure

You know what's wild? I really could care less how big anyone's hands are. I'm not actually judgemental of someone's construction like that. But I know it's a trigger point for that one person and it works so well with this metaphor that I couldn't resist!

I maybe meant THE man whose hands are too small, not just any man with small hands. We need those other guys (and gals) to play small instruments or reach into narrow spaces; needs society always has and we most certainly would prefer not wanting robots to do. Can’t wait for the next one!

Yes to the protest and yes to the kazoo! Well done x

My that is a heroic kazoo! I've never heard such a heroic kazoo.

Enjoyed the extended metaphor and the wordplay jabs. Also pretty rich guitar in the mix. Can't beat a kazoo of justice.
