A song about rejection. Between sending songs to radio stations, short stories to magazines, novels to agents, et cetera, I feel like I should be pretty over it by now, but in reality, who knows
One of the challenges I set myself was to write a song using just my acoustic instruments, so here's that
Lyrics
Swipe left and with a gesture You can spare us both the effort With any luck you’ll never look back Another match discarded And I will do my part to Let this connection severed fall apart
Go on, reject me I’m a grown-up, I can take it I won’t retaliate So many barbs accumulated now arrayed in a Pin-cushion hedgehog defense
Let the seed of doubt try the soil Whether it finds drought or motor oil And if you fly the nest and find the mess grotesque I hope you’re migrate with the rest I won’t like you any less
Go on, reject me I’m a grown-up, I can bear it I won’t give you a scare So many barbs arrayed in a Pin-cushion hedgehog defense
Don’t fall for the classic fallacies Sunk cost doesn’t have to mean That you’ll someday go down with this ship Every sprung leak with starts a drip If you want to, I insist you leave
Go on, reject me I’m a grown-up, I won’t feel it I’ve got no pride to steal It’s just another acupuncture needle in my Pin-cushion hedgehog defense
Hell yeah autoharp! Great lyrics, I especially like how the the drip/leak/ship verse is crafted.
