Lyrics
V1 I’ve played my hand I’ve rolled the dice but I lost again for being too nice
I’ve guessed the word I’ve sang the song and I’m so tired of being your pawn
C1 marching forward sliding back still playing games on the wrong track
drawing one card discarding three playing your games takes the best from me
V2 I’ve called your bluff I’ve raised the bet this game isn’t quite over yet
I cracked the code I caught the ball this time around I’ll win it all
C2 marching forward sliding back still playing games now on attack
drawing one card discarding three playing your games I’m out, I’m free

Glad you liked it, I always gravitate to Liz's words
That reverb on the snare makes the overall sound really like 'you are there'! Great mood-creating start, then the rocking chorus grabs you. Great guitar work, as always! The short lyric lines are complete in their story-telling.
Eventually something that has a real melody with everything in tune, balanced with variations, well done you bucked the trend. Enjoyed it, deserves more feedback.
Thanks , you could always add to recommended forum 🙂
This tune rocks! Love the clever word play, and the production is top notch. Terrific collab, you two!
Thank you
im with Liz on being amazed at what a varied palette dacyvoy works with,,and he always chooses just the right colors to bring a lyric to vibrant life. and within that palette there are bursts of unexpevcted color. when he build a verse to fever pitch, his screams are just as contained as his more reflective moments. this is a fabulous arena rock epic that, in a better world, would have 75,000 people standing and waving lighters.
If only @billwhite51
just absolutely incredible. the whole thing. no words. so damn cool
Thank you
Why am I not hearing this on the radio! I love everything about it, this rocks, even my wife came downstairs to ask who it was. Fave ❤️
It will be released after FAWM
I hear (pop‑)rock production with a strong 1980s vibe. Great vocals, and you can always count on Liz’s lyrics.
Many thanks
Pump up montage music for the Ollie Wride era. Really enjoyed this. Nice work you two! Particularly like the careful choice of a few words with nice dynamic range and building in the verses.
So cool and what a great collaboration. Liz's lyrics are top notch as usual, and the music and vocals make the perfect pairing. Well done both of you!
I think we've arrived in the pro league! Liz created another set of great lyrics (no surprise there) and David rocked them all the way home. What a combination!
Rockin tune! The production is just banging good. The cards metaphor is tight too. Makes for a great song.
Had to check out another and I'm so glad I did. Another banger, still a lot of 80s, but a very different style. The arrangement on this is superb. So much going on, but nothing steps on each other. To the contrary, it feels like everyone in the band gets a moment to shine and add something really critical. The guitar breaks were awesome (and both guitarists got some spotlight) and I love that synth that does a call response thing with the vocal in the verses. And, of course, the driving bass and percussion is there to make sure the whole thing has the proper amount of weight and thunder to it.
Yowzer you have some killer vocal moments here. The first "wrong track" just about kicked over my chair. And the dynamics at the end of the second verse into C2 was brilliant. I have to take a lesson there that's it's OK to reach like that and still start the chorus relatively normal. Not that I can sing like this, but I have a habit of staying high if the verse vocal ends that way. What you did was so much better.
Excellent lyrics, Liz. There is already palpable frustration and anger even without the musical treatment. I was definitely rooting for the protagonist when the fortunes started to turn. 🙂
