Eurydice, Follow Me to Paradise
Skirmish: Myths and Legends (@anakin)Liner Notes
YES I'm a few hours late, but this prompt was too good! I think about Orpheus a lot, a man who was given an impossible task of not looking back when he was supposed to lead his wife Eurydice out of the underworld. I'm certain the task was doomed from the start: if he got out without looking back, I'm sure she would have been gone anyway. When he looked back, she was pulled back to the underworld forever.
An immortal songwriter who's torn apart to be just a head, kept forever from his love who died young. I'm sure he would have written a song just like this one sometime :)
Also I was on the phone with my mom at the time and wanted to show off my improv songwriting chops ;) Which also feels like an Orpheus thing haha
Lyrics
E F#m Am B
Set up for failure right at the beginning An insurmountable obstacle, and I feel like it's hounding me 'Cause what sort of a thing is "Don't look back" if what's following behind you is the most important thing you've ever had?
Oh Eurydice, I would plunge into Hell for you and lead you to the sunshine If you would be mine, I will keep my eyes forward the whole time
Oh Eurydice, I'd lead you to Paradise Just follow the sound of my voice and I'll lead you straight home and I'll try not to look back again
And what sort of a thing-- What sort of an evil king Would say I can't look at you Until I'm through He knows I can never come back down here again And so it's failed from the beginning
What sort of an evil guy Would tell me I can't spy my own love life I'm not the kind of guy who keeps my eyes forward I, I look around
Oh Eurydice, I would lead you to Paradise, Just follow the sound of my voice And we'll get out of here alive, I promise you, I won't look back this time
Oh Eurydice, Just follow me and we'll go back up to the blue skies Nothing's gonna keep us down this time, Nothing's gonna keep us down this time.
I'll miss you forever I'll think of you every time I see pretty weather I'll miss you forever Even though I'm just ahead of everything now I'll never see you again

Yay - we picked the same myth! It's really cool to hear the different responses to the skirmish but especially when it's the same base story. I like your melody and \you have a lovely voice - reminds me a little of Ingrid Michaelson.
I like the chimey sound of the omnichord, feels rather Orpheus too. Beautiful melody over those interesting chord changes. The colloquial language applied to mythology made me smile.
This is a wonderful conflict song such tension in fufilling the quest and enjoying the journey. Beautifully performed thx for letting me in to your world
