Recently I've gotten back into Sherlock Holmes. I read a bunch of the original stories back when I was young. But, a little while ago I watched the wonderful Anime series Moriarty The Patriot which sort of re-ignited my love of Holmes. In the Anime, Irene Adler is not only Sherlock Holmes' love interest, but she is also one of James Moriarty's allies. So I went back & read the original canon story in which Irene Adler appears: A Scandal In Bohemia, & I was inspired to compose & perform this song. Hope it does this interesting Holmes character justice (pun intended).
This is improvised (music & lyrics) as the "tape rolled" (so-to-speak, I still think in analogue terms, even though my process is mostly digital now…). I simply loaded up my "Live" Jeskola Buzz project, hit record & followed my Muse. It's been a long time since I've recorded like this (last FAWM, if I'm honest…), so it's nice to get back to this old M.O. & be creative again.
I hope you enjoy.

The Ballad Of Irene Adler
She came from New Jersey Sang opera in Warsaw Fell in love with the King of Bohemia
And in the streets of London She found herself The subject of an investigation By Sherlock Holmes
And in the end Her house was set on fire But she got away Without earning any ire The King of Bohemia Was appreciative And Doctor Watson Was still amazed At the effect she had on The greatest detective of his Age
He calls her "The Woman" He calls her "The Woman" She was the only one To outsmart him He calls her "The Woman" He calls her "The Woman" He calls her "The Woman" Irene Adler Irene Adler Irene Adler Irene Adler

A great theme that fits you perfectly. Your vocals really stand out there, not just because the guitar fades away in some parts, but thanks to your substantial performance. All sorts of emotions are delivered, with mystery as a pedestal. It is an anthem somehow, glorious and intimate at the same time. Well done!
An intimate anthem? Hmmm… yes, I guess that works. I never thought of something like that, but yeah - that does describe this quite well. Merci!

You had me from "She came from New Jersey" - lol! And the way you shouted "Sherlock Holmes." The strat is in service - yes! We're Sherlock Holmes fans (family name here). My husband has a book collection - I loved the Jeremy Brett series. Enjoyed my listen!
LOL. Yeah, I guess this one spoke to you in more ways than one. Thank you for the listen & the lovely comment.

I love that it's so raw and haunting. Makes me want to read the book...:)
Thank you for the wonderful comment! It's a short story, about 16 pages, or so. It's a quick read.

and honestly, who doesn´t love Sherlock Holmes and Irene Adler? The guitar sound is haunting, it almost sounds like a resonator guitar. cool delivery of lyrics as well.
I know, right? Thank you for the lovely comment.
See You In The Shadows…
This is quite haunting, but in a good way. Nice to hear something quite different.
