All the Time in the World
Liner Notes
A quickie this one with piano, a couple vox, brush drums and bass. Just fiddling on the piano and decided to layer it up. The drums and bass are all auto in Logic, with a little tweaking with sliders and options.
This one's about prioritizing my relationship with my wife over the effectively infinite alternatives of "must watch me" and "must do now" on our phones.
No, we don't have "all the time in the world" in the traditional sense. Our time is limited. We're only given so much, but the amount we have is enough to do the things most important to us – not to do everything. Our phones provide a sense of omniscience but we weren't meant to know or care about everything. It seems to hijack our brains into an unending cycle of trying to "finish" going through the effectively infinite internet. It isn't in our DNA. So, shall we prioritize? This song is a reminder to myself to do just that.

VERSE 1 When these hands... Reach for your hands... Let's hang up our plans It's more important
There's no thing more in all the world There's no thing more, no boy or girl
When these hands Reach for your hands We can take the time
CHORUS 'Cause we've got All the time in the world And those things we've got Crying to tend to them first
They can wait They can wait They can wait Their turn From time to time
'Cause we've got All the time All the time In the world
VERSE 2 When these hands... Reach for your hands... There's no circumstance That's more important...
No screen and no video No thing that we wanna know
Known when these hands Reach for your hands We can take the time
CHORUS 'Cause we've got All the time in the world And those things we've got Crying to tend to them first
They can wait They can wait They can wait Their turn From time to time
'Cause we've got All the time All the time In the world
BRIDGE The days we've been given are all that we've got The hours and their limits, teach us what we're not Not God's but mere mortals, whose time soon is done So babe while we're down here, let's take in the sun
CHORUS 'Cause we've got All the time in the world And those things we've got Crying to tend to them first
They can wait They can wait They can wait Their turn From time to time
'Cause we've got All the time All the time In the world

The lyric is great - tender and affirmative. Fantastic use of repetition too, circling back to hands and time makes for a great singalong ballad. Piano sounds awesome too
What a lovely song! I particularly liked the Bridge. A nice change-up there, and then back to the dreaminess of the rest. There’s something hypnotic about your music. It’s transportive. Thanks for the gift.
I'm so glad I found this song! I love the message about prioritizing things that are important in life - and I love the way the melody floats above the steady keyboard/percussion, kind of like the steadiness of a solid relationship.
There’s such honesty in your lyrics. I really dig the theme in “these hands reach for your hands” throughout the song. It’s the better choice vs. these hands reaching for my phone. Time with my wife and kids is way better than screen time. Your song brought that out when I listened through it. The instrument choice and articulation fit the context. Good write!
So true. We all need the reminders. Takes a lot to overcome the screen addiction. Thanks for the listen and the kind words.
The piano riff (love it), the bass, subtle brush strokes... it all fits with the lyrics and melody. I think when we write a song, we know its going to become a song when those things start to all fit. Sounds great. A duet with your wife, if she sings, would be sweet.
the most important think is working out the most important thing! All the time quickly become know time. ooo ive gone all sage! A topic worth considering, good lines here and delivered in your own special style
So true, and we all need the reminders. Thanks for listening and the kind comments!
Sweet song man! Really strong melody and lyrics! Great vocals and production!
Can only chime in with the others. Great lyrics, great vocals, simple but great production.
