Gone, Gone, Gone
Liner Notes
Last year I had a lot of fun writing honky tonk songs inspired by birds. Seeing as no more songs were written in the last 11 months, I figured I'd pick up where I left off. This is about a dark-eyed junco deciding that it's time to head south from Canada to the balmy winters of Massachusetts.
Fun fact: I just spent a month restoring my drums with a new finish, polished hardware, and new heads. Very happy with the results, and so fun to put it all together in time for FAWM!
Lyrics
Look out there There’s a nip in the air It might be time to go It’s hard to get it right, you never know
Can’t stay here Be back next year Get on with the show At least let’s skip on out before the snow
Chorus: Gone, gone, gone, tonight Give ourselves a chance to get it right Gone, gone, gone, take flight Gotta get on down the road by the morning light
It’s another day and We’re well on our way Been down here before Still, you never know just what’s in store
You get turned around Start losing ground Feel like you're done for But then you fill the tank, break the bank And push the pedal to the floor
[Chorus]

This song makes me wish I'd headed to warmer climes a few months ago when a nip hit the air.
Just excellent work in that guitar solo. No notes.
Oh -- and I've got the phrase "gone, gone, gone" in the chorus of one of my songs this month too; must be something in the air.
So much fun. and I love that if we didn't know it was about birds it would work just fine. The chorus is meant for singing along to. And is that a newly-refinished drum set I hear?
I am feeling a lot of skill and craft in this recording, sir. I think you know what you are doing. And the single word to describe this song, to me, is joy. I think you are having a lot of fun doing this song and I am feeling that as well!
Seems like all honky-tonk songs should be about birds, or at least from their perspective. Massachusetts seems a weird place to spend the winter, but what do i know!
This is a real toe tapper right from the start. Wonderful guitar playing throughout, and I really enjoyed the solo. Awesome drumming too!! You totally nailed the honky-tonk feel in the song. Really well done.
@sheslin is right! A toe tapper right from the get! The instrumental is smooth and tasteful. Really nice
