Faded Hue

Liner Notes
This song is part of the rock opera I'm currently working on. Its working title is #jimmy (no influence from The Who here...). Its about the growing class divide in society and how the elite is weaponizing social media to placate the masses while they consolidate power for themselves.
This album uses a Greek tragedy structure to its story telling to evoke a feeling of catharsis at the end (emptiness of emotion) as our protagonist breaks free but fails to convince anyone else, and falls exhausted back to the warm comfort at the expense of a lack of freedom.
This song is the first song after the intro and serves as the anagnorisis, which is the moment that the protagonist makes the critical discovery. In this rock opera, it comes before the peripeteia (aka, the action taken by the protagonist that leads to the tragedy) which means the protagonist performs the action with full knowledge of the consequences it will entail.
This song was half written before FAWM. Majority of the lyrics and the basic structure of the music. However, I felt like getting this demo recorded was mentally blocking me from writing anything else. And of course a dozen minor changes were made while recording the demo.
Lyrics
[Section A] The ceiling beam is hanging low Casual murmurs softly flow Through the door’s polished shine The air smells rich of roast and pine
[Section B] Did you hear about the barn rebuild? They doubled the size, tore up the soil. Stacked the timber, wall to wall Left no ground for the wheat to fall.
[Section C] Ohhhhh This sounds a lot like Hameau de la Reine That farm they built to play pretend
There ain’t no way we’d let that happen again
[Section A]
[Section B] Did you hear tourist funds will be through the roof? They’ll pay for the work in a day. Create new jobs for the entire town. Build upon our traditional roots.
[Section C] Ohhhhhh Their plan went off without a hitch The goal’s to buy your happy grin It’s the same old Politburo story again
That’s crazy talk Have a drink to take the edge off
[Section A]
[Section A] Through the curtain’s faded hue Echoed murmurs always flow While grey workers polish stone The ceiling beam hangs down low

The lead guitar tone is Mayish, sounds great. Again with the unpredictable and adventurous chord progressions. Nice! Do you like the Dear Hunter? My brain is referencing them when I listen to your stuff. Great playing again. So well done!
This is a cool song structure! Definitely proggy rock opera goodness 😀
I just realised how much I slept during drama theory. Everything sound Greek to me. But I love the song structure. Always something happening, especially the lead guitar part is cool
Yeah I must have slept through it all too, since all I know is from recently reading about and watching various plays online 😅. This version of Oedipus Rex was a very good watch
Again when can I see this? Love how descriptive the lyrics are
🤘🏻 thanks! Part of why I've been so slow this FAWM is I'm putting so much time into the lyrics, so appreciate the comment. I am actually thinking of making an orchestra arrangement for this to see if my local classical choir would do a performance of it. A ton of work though so we'll see if I ever get there haha.
I want to see that show from first listen. As usual, the guitar solos are awesome.
