Time Well Spent

Liner Notes
I seem to have slipped into a bluegrass kinda mood. Here's one about a guy that just has to experience everything fun, but it kinda interferes with his love life!!
Lyrics
Time Well Spent by Gary Ray Knowland
Well now im layin here wonderin' Will I ever get home? If I try a little harder by and by... My friends get fewer as the night grows old But I think I can make it if I try
Oh Yeah she tells me I'm a loser Cause I'm never around But lord I think about that woman all the time There's just so much to do and lord I gotta do it all Or I think I'll just go out of my mind
I'm going' golfin I'm playin' pool I'm hangin' out I play the fool But work I hard babe I pay the rent You call it lame, But I call it... time well spent
-Fiddle Solo -Pedal Steel Solo
Well I know she's gonna leave me And I can't blame her at all I keep tryin but I always let her down But I'm not ashamed of the way I spend my time There's just too much to do in this here town
I'm goin' fishin' I'm racin' cars I'm holdin' aces I'm hittin' bars But I work hard babe I pay the rent You call it lame, But I call it.... time well spent
So I'm still layin here wonderin' Will I ever go home? I sure tried a little harder by and by... My friends all tell me I will end up all alone But maybe I can make it if I try
I'm goin' skiin' I might skydive I'm watchin' football, I'm playin' live But I work hard babe I pay the rent You call it lame, But I call it.... time well spent Yes I call it.... time well spent

You got the bluegrass sound down! Wonderful mandolins and fiddles and some great lonesome melodies. The chorus is great! listing all the mundane things not usually thought of hard work with such fervor gives a great humorous edge!
Fun song, for sure. It would fit nicely at "Country Bears Jamboree," which I've always enjoyed! But now I want to hear the song after she leaves him - lol I have a feeling that would be a "fun" one, too.
some good time shitkicking licks pepper this song about a guy we run into no matter where we go. sure, his woman gets lonely with him out every night and all weekend....but hell, a guy has got to have a little fun, doesnt he?
Loving the bluegrass feel. Loving the theme/perspective, a great one to write from. Funny but sounds so dang good, too. The doubled vocals on the third line in the verses is the perfect touch.
Oh I am totally digging the bed of strings in your song. I also love the energy and toe tapping beat. Your vocals are soooo good - wonderful bluegrass styling. I especially like how you sing the title line. Nice use of harmonies also. Such a catchy melody. I smiled the whole way through. This fun loving character you brought to life is certainly winning at the game of life! This song already sounds like a classic. Well done!
Aww hells yeah! This song is all kinds of awesome! I'm on my third listen and it gets better each time! So, starting with the music, this is some damn fine bluegrass! Even my ol' dawg would be dancin' if he could hear this (God rest his soul!) Everything is so tight and perfect! That driving guitar picking makes my heart race! That excellent fiddle break makes me remember my Kentucky roots (and everybody knows roots is all we have cause leaves just leave!) And Holy Grand Ol Opry, you've put some pedal to the metal (er, steel) too! Yeah this is my kind of music!
But now let's talk about those lyrics and this story! What a great one this is! I mean, I KNOW this guy! He's into everything and he's a ton of fun to hang out with! He plays pool and cards. Fishing, racing cars and hanging out in bars! AND HE STILL WORKS HARD AND PAYS THE BILLS? Hell, this feller is a Great American Hero! Someone who'd back you up in a bar fight or pull your drunk ass out of an upside down, burning racecar!
Your lyrics are just super outstanding on this one and if Nashville isn't calling you by the end of this week I'm gonna get in my racecar, stop by the bar to get good and liquored up, then pick you up for a road trip from Cleveland to the Music City to rectify this injustice! I'll bring a half-pack of cigarettes and you bring the sunglasses! We'll wait for dark and head out!
I seriously LOVE this song!
Really nice! Sounds like this was a lot of fun to put together. I love the chord change and melody at "but I work hard babe". And the more pedal steel on FAWM the merrier!
Extremely tight bluegrass! If you're playing all the instruments, that's incredible. So hard to do well.
Most definitely bluegrass mode. ye ha. a lot going on here. Lyrics sure fit the style drinking hunting fishing
Love the message. I've lately had a few people mention that they have to justify time spent READING ... having to assert that READING is actually "DOING SOMETHING." We have such a narrow definition of what is considered "productive" ways to spend time ... I love that this song addresses this in such a fun and entertaining manner. Well done!
