Autumn Rain
by @oldlostjohn
Liner Notes
Sun vs rain. I like sun in the winter, but not too much of it during summer. I do like rain for some reason, though not too much of it for too long. Right now though it's freezing cold and ice and snow. An old Roland drum machine, a very small bass, electric and acoustic guitar, and a rain stick.
Lyrics
People are looking for a trip to the sun But I don't believe the hype If you need a companion I won't be the one I'm really not the type One hot afternoon and I'm going insane Longin' for the autumn rain
Some people think that Sweden is cold But summer can be bloody hot Most everyone seem to like when it is But I can tell you that I'm not They can cook their limbs and fry their brains As I'm longin' for the autumn rain
Fifteen minutes in the scorching sun And I'll retreat to the shade I'd rather see the sky come pouring down And huddle neath a two-inch plaid I might be going against the grain But I am longin' for the autumn rain

Hi Paul, good to see you back! Well, we can get 30 Celsius, that's hot enough for me. And thanks for your comment!
This sounds so good. A great title line melody, too. It just feels right, a little like Autumn, actually.
I did also think Dire Straits before seeing that reference a few times in the comments. But vocally more Chris Rea. A great classic driving rock sound.
Great groove! I’m really interested in the way that drum machines mix with “analog” instruments and this is such a good example.
As a summer hater with a sleeve full of autumn tattoos this might be my personal anthem 😀
I enjoyed listening to this. Music is smooth and has a vibe to it that is engaging. Autumn rain has a certain visual to it that I think distinguishes it. Good delivery.
such a good groove here! Loving the rain stick, it works so well with the sound. That guitar sounds soo good and the licks are perfect. Nice!!
Dire straits vibes immediately. Your guitar playing is amazing. Tasteful licks galore. You sung this so perfectly. This is a favourite of mine this year for sure. Really quality stuff.
Oh yeah, Mark Knopfler, JJ Cale eat your heart out. Great track, great vibe. Love the vocal delivery and simple yet effective lyrics. Look forward to hearing more.
This is 100% JJ Cale and I love it. I don't know what drum machine he used but you nailed it. It of course has the unique sound of Thomas, unmisstakably. Your craft is too personal and strong. Very well done. 🙏
Oh this OLJ sweet spot for sure. that pretty guitar matched against the gravelly vocal . All class
I could listen to this all day long. I love the bass line groove and the breathy 'JJ Cale' style vocals. Not to mention the very intellectually thoughtful leady bits. Wow!
I love these lyrics, and your phrasing / delivery of same is just fantastic. I agree with the Knopler observations below, which is high praise in my book. Great guitar fills too, and I really like the specificity of the autumn rain.
I agree...Knopfler feel to this. Lyrically, I'm right there with you, 100%. Right from the get go this song just feels right. Super well done.
Old Lost Knopfler! This has a great feeling, and the way the guitar mirrors the vocal melody is tasty. Preferring the rain is a simple yet unexpected way to give this the blues. Nice one!
Hi Tomas! Great to hear you again! I confess to being among those surprised that Sweden gets hot. Regardless, your lyrics are clear and descriptive and the music is excellent. Lots of tasty guitar licks and it is all put together well. Great job!
