Lyrics

No one is above the law That's what they always told me For a long time, I believed Sometimes I miss the old me I miss the wonder of it all The world this child saw Where mommies and daddies never lied And no one was above the law

No one is above the law They taught us in school About the men who owned the slaves The men who wrote the rules We spoke the words of liberty And justice for all I left there with a certainty No one was above the law

No one is above the law Is what they always told me Nothing but a bill of goods Just something else they sold me But how I loved the fairy tale In spite of all its flaws It ends with these immortal lines No one is above the law Remember, once upon a time when No one was above the law

Feels kind of daring to be so laid back - but it works for sure. A really cutting message and some great rhymes. Was it all a fairy tale? It was maybe not as perfect as it was made out to be, but boy did have we drifted away even from that.

Loving this one Greg. As adults, it's funny to think how much our parents actually were lying to us when we were younger. Some great lines in here. "Sometimes I miss the old me", "nothing but a bill of goods." Poignant and currently very relatable.

I kept thinking the second half of each phrase was going to start with the relative minor chord, but I love the structure still. Your tearing it up this year!!

Nice pace and I like the delivery here. A gently spoken protest song.

This is excellent! your sad and elegiac tone is perfect for this loss of innocence and shock of everything that's happening these days. I've been writing about it too, and you do so eloquently and well!
