Lonesome Thought

Liner Notes

I intended to write a mournful song, but alas it came out more ponderous than sad! My husband says it’s just a variation on twinkle twinkle, and he sang the lyrics to prove it. XD I’m not convinced. #viola #instrumental #acoustic #variation #raspy #sadsong

Rhythmically I can see the twinkle twinkle, especially in the first few bars, but there's way more to a song than rhythm! I really like this little melody.

Beautiful melody! It's haunting, melancholy, and memorable!

I tried singing twinkle on top of this and it kind of came out as a wonderfully weird version. Without your liner notes would not have heard it at all. Indeed very pondorous with a sprinkling of melancholia.

It's not twinkle but it does prove you have a good grasp on classical melodic conventions.

love the viola! I don't hear twinkle at all.

This is lovely. Pensive, and certainly lonesome with just the single fiddle. And the ‘raspy’ tone you’ve been worried about is actually quite fitting for the piece so don’t worry!

Really nice viola playing! I hear bits and pieces of different old English folk songs sprinkled throughout but I can't remember their names. It has a nice familiar feel though...

I think it's definitely a sad, lonesome thought. I would say that how you played, conveys the sadness quite well actually.

I hear no particular 'twinkle' likeness, so I wouldn't worry about that.

I have nothing against twinkle twinkle, but I’m glad to hear that! 😅

I love this very nice melody and also I really like how the viola sounds

Thanks! I often wish my notes came out more piercing and less raspy, but I’m learning to worry about it less. 😜
