Joined this skirmish with just 30 minutes left after breakfast with bandmates, but fortunately our conversation touched on an appropriate issue for a song. It took a bit longer to finish and post a demo. #skirmish #philosophy #governance #democracy

THREADING THE NEEDLE (c) 2026 raspberry33
Where do you start, and where do you end? Which compass point are you facing? One man rule or wisdom of crowds Drawing thicker lines or erasing?
Human nature is what it is We’re wired to be self-centered But a crowded world needs guardrails Or else liberty will be surrendered
Chorus: There’s no perfect system Mob rule is unruly History shows a ruling class Tends to govern cruelly We have to thread the needle in between.
Verse 2: Time goes by, and world views change As children we’re instructed That parents, teachers will decide How our lives are constructed
But as we grow, one hopes we learn No one has all the answers We find our niche and hope to thrive With room for clever dancers
CHORUS
Outro: We cannot trust a fragile king When everything has drifted Ruling wisely is a gift But very few are gifted It’s an argument for democracy

Great thought-provoking lyrics. Threading the needle seems to be a rare skill these days. Well-crafted song, and I really dig the playing, especially the harmonica lines.
This is very impressive for 30 minutes! What a lovely song about growth and philosophy
What a delightful and thoughtful lyric! Thank you for the wisdom!
I see this one underwent subtle changes lyrically. I love the way you write.
This could be a good song! The chorus sounds musical already even though there's no music, and I like the 'we have to thread the needle in between' phrase
This meditation had me really thinking about the concept of balance or at least that's how I've put it in other discussions of the subject. But here you refer to it as threading the needle which I think is even more apt. Because there really is only one way through. Although I think right now we're trying to find balance when in fact we should be trying to thread that needle.
Great argument here and a fantastic lyric well done.
Timely and unfortunately necessary to observe right now. I will look for the demo. Thanks!
Thanks! I just now posted the demo. Jimmy Buffett meets Cat Stevens, though the chord progression is probably cribbed from Vivaldi or Bach (hence the organ...)
Good song. I like how it feels gentle, tolerant, and inclusive, considering the subject matter. Inspiring. Thanks!
