taking solace

Liner Notes

start of a new series for fawm 2026. this song, and all of the others in this series, will likely get edited and re-uploaded as i come back and work on them. if you like the current version, download it, because it's probably going to get worked on and replaced. i might host a version history eventually. add that to the list of things that would make soundcloud a way sicker platform.

if you'd like to participate, even informally, hit me up :)

i've had some people reach out and ask about my composition process recently. for that reason, i'll list out the songs that i use as stylistic, textural, or arrangement references this month. no magic here; i steal lots of ideas, especially when wanting to write a lot of music quickly after work.

for this piece, i used Normal Life by eebrozgi (void stranger ost) as an arrangement reference: www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyxbCyZrFHw

Very nice. I’m interested in your process. I think I use something similar, just not as direct because my playing chops are more limited.

the piano is pianoteq 6! I run it inside of bitwig studio 5.13.

as for my process, I have a Roland FP-30x sitting behind me, and for this one I bounced back and forth between playing on it and programming the midi (most of it in the actual song is programmed, but I did put some effort into making it sound played live). for this song, I really wanted to find a potent emotional space to practice creating simple melodies and also develop them with interesting chord voicings.

I've spent a lot of the last few months picking apart this song below because I feel it excels at this particular thing, so there's a lot of its soul in the track I posted. I hope that helps, and I hope you are enjoying FAWM so far :)
