The Love Nest

Liner Notes

There was a request for a silent film with my accompaniment, so here it is! "The Love Nest" is a 1923 Buster Keaton silent comedy, to which I've added improvised accompaniment. The recording is a single take. It's a little rough toward the end, where the pedal got away from me, but it's FAWM! The movie is available thanks to the Internet Archive. #improvisation #silentFilm

Wow! I feel like you ought to get credit for more than one song for this, Gary! I love how smoothly you transition from minor to major and back as the visuals move and demand you too.

Stylistically it fits so well with silent film music of this time period too. I’m listening as I write, so every now and then you change mood dramatically and I have to scroll up to see how the characters are doing.

Oof someone got thrown overboard to some very abrupt basso chords and then we had a moment of mourning. I love this, Gary! I have to go teach for a bit, but I’m going to come back and listen to all of it and watch the movie before we pack for BOSKONE.

(But not before I got to watch someone else be thrown overboard.)

Pretty impressive. I guess that's how they really did it in the past! I thought it matched up well. Kudos

Very ambitious Gary. Lovely melancholy in all of the right places.
