Lyrics

The world’s on fire But I guess it’s always been Since we were divided By the color of our skin

The same old story For some fool’s glory How many have to die? Never again But it’s happening to a friend Right before your eyes Oh when will we ever learn?

The voices rise Like they always have When the darkness comes Bearing down again

The same old songs For a world gone wrong Just a poet and his pen Wont make it right But still we fight No this cannot be the end No it isn’t, it isn’t the end

This came up on random and I’m so glad it did. Love the chords, words and melody and what a voice. Wonderful.

I love how to manage to rhyme "world's on fire" with "we were divided". Your voice is a salve for these dark and painful times, so beautiful. Your melodic choices are gorgeous, I love hearing you flip to upper register and then prove that your lower range can go further than we expect. Beautiful, Rachel!

on a random listen drew me in lot to like here

Those are powerful lyrics. Wonderful vocal runs here as well. I really enjoyed this tune!

Love this. Beautiful melody, and great message. Kinda Nick Drake-esque. Ironically, I think this song has more to say. Keep going!

I had the same feeling. Will definitely come back to this one!

I loved the meandering melodies. This message really resonates in this crazy world. I like how you muse about the division starting long before it became apparent. Very somber, very beuatiful.

The hesitant timing on "world's on fire" and "were divided" just kills me. Holy Joni Mitchell melodies in that verse, and throughout the whole song. It's way you pop so effortlessly into your head voice, and the way the contrasting low notes sound like a mini dirge in contrast. That faint yodel just retches the feels right of me. (don't think that's the right way to use that word, but I don't care) I am crying in front of my computer listening to this. Simply gorgeous.

Thank you! It means so much when I know that a song I write moves others emotionally, so I so appreciate you sharing!

Nice work!

Very nice! Lyrics flow well and melody fits perfectly with message.

The sad resignation of that first line is absolutely brilliant. Sweet melody and great words!
