Tilt-Shift
by @cheslain
Liner Notes
It's February 1st and I'm already cheating. I started a little early by going to my friend's studio on Jan 31st to record some drum tracks that would eventually hopefully evolve into songs. I played some beats to outline a song structure with some dynamics but with no particular song ideas in mind. Then today I spent nearly the whole day crafting this song based on one of the drum tracks. So nothing tonal was written before February.
The lyrics are bit of a mess. I had several topics and half-baked ideas in mind that didn't seem to realize into anything coherent, so I just crammed all those ideas together in this vague, absurd haze.
Is this shoegazy? Maybe.
Lyrics
there's no such thing as random there's no such thing as chance the paths laid before us are of least resistance
there's the rub you see there's not much we can do
your authority has no meaning here sit down with the rest of us
cause there's the rub you see we have no say
tilt-shifted scenes coming to existence surreal waking dreams observed from a distance trying hard to reach for something to touch and feel but nothing around us is truly real
everything is random all the patterns around us only chance mandalas
so there's the rub you see there's not much we can do
tilt-shifted scenes coming to existence surreal waking dreams observed from a distance trying hard to reach for something to touch and feel but nothing around us is truly real
perspective's kind of bent it seems and there's too much out of focus
ill movement of wind-up toy cars across the streets of flaking paint watercolour sky and a poorly drawn sun twitching steps of tiny figurines

I like this a lot! And there's nothing wrong with cramming lyrics together (watch me ;-). Plus my inner photographer loves the tilt-shift reference
Uhhoh, sounds great! Looking forward for the full album :D.
Feels like surfing a sonic tidal wave! Definitely has shoegazey tendencies with all that lovely reverb swooshing about. Love the way you bring it down towards the end before launching into a final assault. “Watercolour sky and a poorly drawn sun / twitching steps of tiny figurines” is an amazing pair of lines (regardless of your unnecessary self-deprecation on the lyrics). I’m also always hugely impressed by people who can drum, it’s something I wish I could do. Great work!
Im happy you booked some time with the drummer cause this sounds great! And yes, Id classify as shoegaze. Haven't heard that before on your profile, great fit. I still have no idea how to create these sounds but they turned out awesome
Love the intensity of this tune.
well you cover yourself well by starting with there is no such thing as random. Very heavy over music which makes it fairly dark. Very full sound a real earful. a bit Bowieesque
this is really a mood, very cinematic feel & a postmodern theme
Really cool song, love the guitar tones, very shoegazy!
This sounds so well put together! Love the stereo vox! I'm picking up some Afghan Whigs Vibes!
Love the shoegaze vibe you created here! You compiled all the instruments layers perfectly! Awesome start!
Incredible instrumentation! Really powerful drumline and great chord choices.
The wall of guitars is beautiful, like floating on waves. I like that the drums are quite low in the mix but still drives the track forward and glues it together. It all melts together with the vocal to a big mass that's very atmospheric and hazy in a great way.
