(Ruins of destiny)
There was no thought, no being. In that ever collapsing void of broken time, matter and entropy Shem fell for an eternity, but only for a moment. The temporal nature of the stuff he knew as the universe, of being itself, had failed him as had all concepts of space and progression. Somehow, without eyes, he saw a prick of light across the infinite ink of nothing.
A disturbance that he could only equate with a sensation of movement enveloped him as the light began to expand beneath. Plummeting became forward motion as he sped past great fleets of planet-sized ships that were tombs to lost civilizations, empires and histories that now never were and could never be. Titanic structures circling entire stars and galactic a engine powered by dozens of black holes orbiting a central point of some unrecog-nizable technology.
Spheres of light in colors he couldn’t comprehend spiraled aroundShem as he approached the strange central structure of the galactic en-gine. The surface of this hub came up to meet him and he found himself, body and all, standing in the middle of a great green field, grass stretching and blowing in all directions for as far as he could see with a cloudless blue sky above. Crystal columns began slowly rising from the earth around him, stretching in front of him in parallel lines that formed a lane of sorts.
The thought of taking a step inserted itself into Shem’s mind and he lifted his foot to begin the move. As the sole touched the ground another great groan of thunder rolled across the land and the crystal columns be-gan sprouting violently and explosively in all directions as the sky turned a deep, bloody red.
A tongue of flame danced it’s way from some point high in the sky to the ground several miles in front of him. The vertical line of fire split and the air seemed to peel open in the space between the separating lines of fire. A series of wheels within wheels covered in human-looking eyes emerged from the newly opened space, followed by series of multi-face monstrosities that arranged themselves in rows to be lifted into the sky to resemble a choir on staggered risers.
In the center of the space that had opened, flanked by the strange choir of creatures and pulled by the seeing wheels, a thing with an unmoving human face of porcelain lurched forward in way that sickened the air around Shem. The choir, previously stoic and somehow proud, turned in abject horror as they gazed upon the emerging monster, releasing a shriek that made the eyes set into the wheels roll back to expose all whites before they collapsed to the ground with a hollow thud.
The shrieking became an unholy cacophony of wailing as the choir and porcelain faced creature burst into flames and began melting only to reform and melt again. Finally, the porcelain faced thing straightened and cast its face towards Shem. Cracks began forming in the mask around the mouth and eyes, showing a great light within that suddenly burst forth, tearing the entire scene like it was paper from the center, moving out - crea-tures, red sky and grassy field of crystal columns fell away.
