I marked this as a feast purely on the basis that it took me 10 minutes, most of which was spent loading the loops into my sampler.
So I've had an MPC1000 since about 2007 and done next to fuck all with it (@tomski and I did use it at a Carpetburn show about 10 years ago and that's it) and I recently decided I would make a concerted effort to unleash it's full potential. I soon discovered this required some serious upgrading as the RAM, OS and hard disk Akai provide out of the box allows you to do pretty much nothing except hit the pads with the crappy pre-loaded sounds. Last night, just in the nick of time, I received my big bad RAM upgrade and a new beefy compact flash disc (this is some seriously old tech here) and now I am able to slice and dice beats like a pro, except not exactly like a pro as you can hear. My command of the machine is still totally amateurish. But this is my first step. In my excitement I had to plug in my looper and MPC at the same time and have a little jam with myself. This is the result. It took as long to write as it did to record and were it not for FAWM this would never see the light of day, but with a bit of practice I hope to become an effective one-man indie hip-hop beast.
There are still a few technical questions that remain for me, such as:
- How the shit can I sync my looper and sampler?
- Where is JJOS1 4.99?
- Do I have time to poop before going to class?
maybe we will never know...
EDIT: Oh yeah, sorry about those horrible clicks. My soundcard is a twat and it was recorded on to the guitar track so I can't fix it. I should probably just delete this. What am I even doing?
