This one for me is what FAWM is about. Monday night I went down to my 'studio' to work on the last tune for my rock opera, a very delicate ad heartfelt acoustic bass and voice number. As soon as I positioned a nice ribbon mic on the upright bass and was ready to hit record, two loud bands, one on either side (I'm in Brooklyn, so all my gear and crap is crammed into a small rehearsal space that I call a 'studio') started up. Rather than get pissed off that it was too loud to record anything, I decided to switch gears and do something 'in the box' on the computer. I started messing around with some analog synth plug-ins. I didn't know if I was working on a song or just screwing around, but soon I spun up the Echoplex and looped each track back on itself, programmed and played some drums, a creepy crime narrative (another one! What is wrong with me??) started to take shape, and away I went.
Darling, I can't think when you're talking
there's such a lot you say
I try and tune you in, but your frequency clashes
with my airwaves
give me your lighter now, let me take a drag,
ah, much better...now let's think some...
...now let's think some....
You've got to calm yourself,
remember how unhappy you were till now
you wanted out you said of life itself
now she's lying here
the source of all your pain, give me a hand let's pull her
pull her into the back
You always said you wanted me
but what is this in your eyes
such fear of me!
Darling I'm quite sure she would never compromise
you said yourself
so I dropped some lye in her drink
now we have the life we need
